Phases
Mar 16th
Right now, I’m really in the mood to blog. Don’t ask me why!
I decided to identify the phases in my life.
- The best part of my life – the 16 wonderful wonderful years at Ukkunagaram. For those of you who don’t know about this really beautiful place, here is the wikipedia page. The best part of the best time in my life was school and my best friends for life. BVM, Anshu, Kunal, Adi, Abhi, Sushant, Sridhar, Srikkanth – guys, I owe you all one for giving me the best phase of my life! Here is a pic from 2000 (I know the background is kinda ugly
)
We met again when I was in India during December 08-Jan 09. Here is a pic when we met during New Year, Jan 1, 2009.
- The next phase was my return to Steel plant (Ukkunagaram) in 2001, only to leave the place permanently in 2002.
- The next phase – GITAM. Aditya, Adkris, Vivek – How would I have survived through the 4 years of engineering without you guys?
- And then, SSN @ Chennai. Nice fun with all folks there. Yoga, Tea, Badminton, CELL processor – these are the things that pretty much the things life consisted of.
- The next phase in life was Carnegie Mellon. A part of my life I will cherish for many, many years.
- And then, Silicon Valley! I would say that life now is rocking, but if I rank the “rocking” at the scale of 10, I would say the current score is at 5.5. I was at my peak during school
. - And of course, I’m really looking forward to the next phase of my life, which would start sometime next February (2010). More about that later.
There, that’s my life in a nutshell.
The Good Ol’ Times
Mar 15th
Around this time, last year, I would be getting ready to go to the library. It would be cold, really cold. Pittsburgh City, snow all around. Strange time to go to the library, you would think. Well, not if you were working there.
My shift was from 12 to 3, weird hours, but nothing that I couldn’t manage. When you have the escort service to take you home, it never is a problem to stay late at campus. So, I would start the walk from my building at 300 S Craig around this time at 11:30PM towards Hunt library. The streets are generally empty at that time of the night, especially on weeknights. Sometimes, I would brave the chilly winds and make it to the library after a lot of struggle.
Eric, my supervisor would go for his break when I take charge of the front desk. Not surprisingly, the undergrads and grad students at CMU work late into the night. After an hour of checking out books and clearing the drop box, I would go to the 2nd floor or the 4th and start shelving books. This is the boring part. After toiling for an hour, I go down and then am free to do my own stuff while helping out folks check books out.
Then, I would do the rounds at half past 2 reminding people that we close in half an hour. Then, at 3:05, when I’ve made sure everybody’s left the library, Eric and me lock the library and we leave. It gets really cold at that time of the night. Then, the walk back to 300 S Craig. It’s sometimes scary especially when the wind is howling. I get into the Escort shuttle and I’m at home by 4. Then, sleep.
Missing Pittsburgh, missing the hours spent at the library, missing the lonely walks on the cold winter night, missing the good ol’ times.
